OUR PURPOSE
To encourage honest and open conversations between South Africans, to confront and understand our past, in order to build an inclusive society with a shared psyche built on compassion and understanding.
OUR CORE VALUES
The Social Cohesion Foundation of SA is anchored by these core values: - Impartiality - Apoliticism - Inclusivity - Honesty - Diversity - Trustworthiness
OBJECTIVES
- Re-imagine and redefine the concepts of ‘social cohesion’ and ‘nation-building’ in
21st-century South Africa.
- Provide deeper understanding of the South African Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and their relation to the Freedom Charter.
- Create programmes, platforms and spaces for open, honest and constructive dialogue about South Africa’s past, present and future.
- Facilitate collaboration between businesses and communities to build a sustainable future
AUDIENCE
The Foundation will be championed by and for empathetic South Africans who have a shared passion for the positive progression of the country. We are active citizens who use our similarities to take the country forward, while learning from our differences.
We are:
GENERATION X (1965-1980)
Those who have lived in ‘both’ South Africa’s. Those who experienced both apartheid and democracy. Those who were young during the country’s transition and have the context of both versions of South Africa.
MILLENIALS (1981-1996)
The first generation of people to have a free South Africa as their first reference of living in the country. These are the first ‘guinea pigs’ of the Rainbow Nation project. Even so, they saw and experienced the remnants of the physical, cultural and emotional divisions created in South Africa.
GEN Z & GEN ALPHA (1997+)
The first generation of South Africans who have the ability to view South Africa through a different lens. They are the generation that is most likely to actively unlearn the untruths that have been perpetuated in the country.
